Jekyll & Hyde - The Musical Information
Musical Jekyll & Hyde was released in 1990 and is based on Robert Louis Stevenson's The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886). Frank Wildhorn composed the music, Leslie Bricusse wrote the book, and both he and Steve Cuden contributed to the words for this stage adaptation they created. The Musical's initial run was in Houston, Texas; then, it toured the United States before making its Broadway debut in 1997.
Since then, there have been numerous international productions in a wide range of languages, such as two subsequent North American tours, two tours in the United Kingdom, a concert version, a revamped US tour in 2012, a revival on Broadway in 2013 starring Constantine Maroulis, and an Australian concert version in 2019 starring Anthony Warlow. The original production of Jekyll & Hyde opened at the Alley Theatre in Houston, Texas, in May 1990. It played to sold-out crowds and received rave reviews from reviewers, prompting two extensions of the show's run until it eventually closed in July of that year.
The lead parts were portrayed by Chuck Wagner, with Linda Eder as Lucy and Rebecca Spencer as Emma Carew (then known as Lisa). Gregory Boyd directed the play. Theater Under the Stars brought the production back to Houston after an absence of nearly five years. A short run began on January 20, 1995, and ended on February 19, 1995. From February 28 to March 19, 1995, it ran at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle.
