Ghost - The Musical Information
The musical Ghost features music and lyrics by Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard and book and lyrics by Bruce Joel Rubin. The musical, based on the popular 1990 romantic fantasy thriller film of the same name, made its premiere at the Manchester Opera House in March 2011. Later that summer, on July 19, 2011, Ghost opened on the West End. In April 2012, a new production on Broadway began previews. After the London run ended in October 2012, the show toured the United Kingdom in 2013.
Sam and Molly, a young couple, return to their apartment when attacked. After his death, Sam is in limbo between this world and the next. Sam can't desert Molly when she's in peril. Oda Mae Brown, a medium, facilitates Sam's communication with Molly to warn her. Previews began on March 15, 2012, and the official opening night was April 23, 2012, at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on Broadway. Newcomers Da'Vine Joy Randolph (Oda Mae) and Bryce Pinkham (Carl) joined veterans Richard Fleeshman and Caissie Levy in this Matthew Warchus-directed production.
The opening reviews were mixed, but the show was nominated for three Tonys. With Hugh Vanstone taking home the trophy for Outstanding Lighting Design and Maya Randolph being nominated for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical, the Outer Critics Circle Awards were a huge success. On July 24, it was announced that the Broadway play would end its run on August 18, 2012, after 136 performances. The 2013 fall season will see the beginning of a nationwide tour.
