Everybodys Talking About Jamie Information
Everybody's Talking About Jamie is an American coming-of-age stage musical written and directed by Tom MacRae. It features music by Dan Gillespie Sells and lyrics by Tom MacRae. The musical is based on Jenny Popplewell's 2011 British television documentary Jamie: Drag Queen at 16 (Jamie: Drag Queen at 16). The musical is inspired by the true tale of Jamie Campbell, a 16-year-old British teenager who overcame discrimination and bullying to emerge from the shadows and become a drag queen.
The musical, directed by Jonathan Butterell, premiered at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield on February 13, 2017, after previews began on February 8 and ended on February 25. The musical moved to the Apollo Theatre in the West End on November 6, 2017, with most of the Crucible Theatre cast returning.
On March 17, 2020, the show went on hiatus. On December 12, 2020, the show reopened with social distancing measures for the audience. Only four days later, the concert was over. The show will reopen on May 20, 2021, with social distancing measures in place, and Shane Richie will reprise his role as Hugo/Loco Chanelle. The show will go on hiatus on September 26, 2021, before returning in 2022.
Layton Williams and Shane Richie reprised their roles of Jamie and Hugo/Loco Chanelle from the West End play for a UK tour that began on February 8, 2020, at the Lyceum Theatre in Sheffield. The tour was announced in May 2021 that it would resume on September 1, 2021, in Salford at The Lowry. At some venues, Bianca Del Rio portrayed Loco Chanelle.
