Comics Come Home Information
Comics Come Home is a stand-up comedy festival that benefits local charities and takes place every year in Boston. The event, conducted annually since 1995 and is currently the longest-running comedy fundraiser in the United States, was conceived by Denis Leary (who still serves as its curator and presenter) and hockey Hall of Famer Cam Neely.
The Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care has benefited from the festival's proceeds every year since it began. The festival donated about $11.5 million in 2018 to the Cam Neely Foundation. Former Boston Bruins player and current president Neely. His mother passed away from cancer in 1987, and his father passed away in 1993; he created the foundation and approached Leary about putting on a comedy benefit event in Boston in 1995.
In 1995, the Orpheum Theater hosted the first-ever Comics Come Home convention. From 2005 to 2013, it was held at the Agganis Arena; since 2014, it has been held at TD Garden.
