Once again, Andrew Lloyd Webber has produced a theatrical musical that is quite remarkable. This musical comedy will go down in history thanks to Webber's music, lyrics by Tony and Olivier award-winning David Zippel, and the original screenplay and book by Emerald Fennell, winner of the 2021 Oscar for best dramatic writing.
The novel Cinderella by Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm is a loose inspiration for the show's plot. However, unlike the original, this updated version features a strong emphasis on body shaming and several warped characters, such as Prince Charming's coming out as gay.
Once again, Andrew Lloyd Webber showcases his exceptional musical talent with over 25 original compositions. The list of Webber's accolades is practically endless: he has won Oscars, Grammys, Oliviers, and Tonys, among many more, for his musicals Sunset Boulevard, The Phantom of the Opera, Cats, and Sunset Boulevard.
Previews for Cinderella began in June 2021 at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in London's West End, and the production officially debuted there on August 18th, 2021. You would be foolish to miss this performance.
