Camille A. Brown has worked in the dance industry as a performer, choreographer, director, and teacher. She has also concurrently choreographed commissioned works for other dance companies, Broadway shows, and colleges in addition to being the Founder & Artistic Director of Camille A. Brown & Dancers. Brown began her work as a dancer with Ronald K. Brown's Evidence, A Dance Company, and has since performed as a guest artist with Rennie Harris Puremovement and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (2008 and 2011).
Brown is a renowned choreographer, having worked on such critically acclaimed Broadway productions as Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert!, Once on This Island, and Choir Boy. Brown also speaks and teaches dance at institutions like Long Island University, Barnard College, and the Akron Center for Dance and the Performing Arts (ACDFA). For Black History Month, Google Arts & Culture collaborated with Camille A. Brown & Dancers to tell the story of Black history and culture through dance. The project focused on the "ink" theme, which was recorded at the Brooklyn Historical Society.
Brown has won numerous awards and honors, such as the Princess Grace Award five times, a Tony Award nomination for best choreography for Choir Boy, a TED Fellowship, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Doris Duke Performing Artist Award, an Obie Award, a Dance Magazine Award of Honor, a Bessie Award, and a USA Jay Franke & David Herro Fellowship. Dance Magazine (April 2018) and Dance Teacher Magazine (August 2015) have highlighted her on their covers.
