Bandstand - The Musical Information
Bandstand The Musical is the original musical that was created by Richard Oberacker. Oberacker and Robert Taylor wrote the book and lyrics of the musical. The Bandstand musical revolves around a story of a group of veterans of World War II who return to their home, United States. The story tells about the struggles of those veterans who are back after the war and lingering to adjust to their old lives due to the war effects.
The musical is based on the survivor’s guilt and post-traumatic stress of those veterans. The band was formed to compose the veterans solely and compete in a national patriotic radio content that was taking place in New York City.
The premiere of the Bandstand The Musical officially featured on October 18, 2015, for a limited run until November 8, 2015, at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn. It opened on Broadway on April 26, 2017, and closed on September 17, 2017.
The veterans performed with their souls and tried to show the image of the post-war effects on America’s Second World War heroes. Production of the original Bandstand was directed by Andy Blankenbuehler, whereas the star performance was given by Corey Cott, Laura Osnes, and Beth Level.
In September 2014, a workshop of Bandstand The Musical was held in New York City featuring Corey Cott as Donny, Laura Osness as Julia, and Beth Leavel as Mrs. Adams. It also included the bebop, jitterbug, and swing.
