Wichita Wind Surge Information
The Wichita Wind Surge is a Double-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins and plays in the Texas League of Minor League Baseball. Their 2021 season got underway at Riverfront Stadium in Wichita, Kansas. Before moving to Metairie, Louisiana, in 2020, the Wind Surge played for 24 seasons under the New Orleans Zephyrs and then for two seasons as the Baby Cakes.
The formation of the Colorado Rockies expansion franchise in Major League Baseball in 1993 resulted in the relocation of the Denver Zephyrs. They were known as the Denver Bears for nearly 30 years before 1984. With a record of 69–51, the Wind Surge were the champions of the Northern Division in 2021. Having the best record in the league allowed them to go to the title playoffs.
They lost to the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, who finished in second place, 3-2 in the best-of-five series. Manager Ramon Borrego of the Wichita Wild was named the best in the league. After the regional circuit changed its name in 2021, the Double-A Central continued using it in 2022. This new name was the Texas League.
