Western and Southern Open Tennis Information
The Western & Southern Open is an outdoor tennis tournament held annually in the United States. It began on September 18, 1899, and is the oldest tennis game in the U.S., still played in the same city where it began. The event moved to the Cincinnati Tennis Club in 1903. It was held there most of the time until 1972. The Lindner Family Tennis Center is where it is played right now.
Roger Federer has won the most Cincinnati Open titles. He has won seven out of the eight finals. His most recent title came in 2015 when he beat Novak Djokovic, who would win the tournament thrice. In 2018, Djokovic was the first player to win the Golden Masters, meaning he won all nine masters. Then, in 2020, Djokovic did this again to win the double Golden Masters.
The USTA sold the event to Ben Navarro's Beemok Capital in 2022. In June 2023, the city proposed a $15 million contribution and other economic incentives to keep the tournament in Mason. State Senator Steve Wilson proposed a $25 million contribution and a $1 billion "super-capital improvement fund" for a state budget plan.
