Washington Spirit Information
The Washington Spirit is a professional soccer team from the Washington, D.C., area that plays in the NWSL. They are American. An amateur Women's Premier Soccer League squad and a youth team, known as Spirit, are maintained as a continuation of the D.C. United Women of the W-League. On November 21, 2012, the National Women's Soccer League was announced, and Washington was chosen as one of the eight clubs to play in the first season.
The Spirit named Mark Parsons their new head coach on November 21, 2022. From 2013 through 2015, Parsons was the show's lead for the first three seasons of The Spirit. Mark Parsons was fired as head coach of the Spirit after one season on October 17, 2023, two days after the team's last loss against the North Carolina Courage. Jonatan Giráldez Costas, formerly of FC Barcelona Femeni, was named head coach by the club on January 9, 2024.
