The Texas Open, located close to San Antonio, Texas, is a professional golf event part of the PGA Tour. Due to sponsorship considerations, the tournament is also known as the Valero Texas Open. It was originally held in 1922 under the Texas Open and had a 102-year history.
The tournament is located northeast of San Antonio and occurs at TPC San Antonio's The Oaks Course. The Valero Energy Foundation also hosts the Valero Texas Open, the organization's name. Since 2017, Wasserman Media Group has managed the event's management. Tommy Armour III scored a record-breaking 254 on the 72-hole PGA Tour there in 2003.
Several well-known players, such as Sam Snead, Ben Hogan, and Arnold Palmer, have won this event and have emerged victorious in the past three years. With Valero as the title sponsor since 2002, the tournament has surpassed all other PGA Tour tournaments in yearly philanthropic donations. The Valero Texas Open raised more than a million for charity in 2015, making it the fourth PGA Tour tournament to do so.
The 2019 season saw a change in weekend coverage from CBS to NBC as the Valero Texas Open moved back to its original slot before The Masters. More than 7 million was donated to charity, with a record-breaking million coming from the 2021 Valero Texas Open.
10 of the top 22 golfers in the world will tee it up in 2024, including Rory McIlroy, Matt Fitzpatrick, Brian Harman, Ludvig Åberg, Max Homa, Tommy Fleetwood, Collin Morikawa, Hideki Matsuyama, Jordan Spieth and Tom Kim.
