UTSA Roadrunners Football Information
The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) fields an American football team called the Roadrunners. The Roadrunners play in the American Athletic Conference and the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). Jeff Traylor, who took over the team in 2020, is their coach. The Roadrunners play their home games at the Alamodome, which can hold up to 65,000 spectators for other events but only 36,582 for UTSA games.
After a 7-4 regular season in 2020, UT San Antonio made its second bowl participation in school history, playing in the First Responder Bowl. UTSA finished the 2021 regular season with an 11-1 record in Traylor's second year as head coach. This would be the longest winning streak in the program's history and the most wins in a single regular season.
The rivalry between Texas State and UT San Antonio is known as the I-35 Rivalry. The first time these two WAC rivals squared up was in 2012. The rivalry has been put on hold since both Texas State and UTSA switched conferences for the 2013 season—Texas State to the Sun Belt and UTSA to Conference USA.
After being canceled for the 2019–2022 season, the show was revived the following year and aired every year after that. Each city, San Marcos and San Antonio, alternate hosting the annual rivalry. UTSA has a perfect 5-0 record against A&M in their five meetings dating back to the 2012 season.
