The Aggies represent the University of California, Davis, and are a Division I team in the Football Championship Subdivision. They stage out of the UC Davis Health Stadium. Playing their first game in 1915, the Aggies suffered relative obscurity as part of the NCAA's College Division until the early 1970s.
Although they often excelled during the 20th century, beginning in 1972, they won 20 back-to-back titles in the Northern California Athletic Conference. When they joined Division II the next year and competed for three decades, their tenacity paid off. Nearly twenty times from 1970 to 2000, they would appear at the Division II playoffs.
The Aggies went on to win the American West Conference title in 1993, and such steady performance got the team elevated to Division I FCS in 2003. They showed up for the first time in the FCS playoffs in 2018. UC Davis has a fierce rivalry with Sacramento State and Cal Poly, and events between the campuses are among the most much-awaited in the area.
