Tulsa Golden Hurricane Football Information
The Tulsa Golden Hurricane football team competes in the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) for the University of Tulsa. Since the 2014 season, Tulsa has been a member of the American Athletic Conference (the American). The team formerly competed in the Conference USA (C-USA).
Kevin Wilson is the team's head coach. Skelly Field at H. A. Chapman Stadium is where the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes play their home games. The University of Tulsa has the lowest undergraduate enrollment of any FBS institution.
Before being called the Tulsans, the team was formally known as the Orange and Black, the Kendallites, the Presbyterians, the Tigers, and the Tulsans. Archer cast the team vote to replace Georgia Tech's Golden Tornadoes. After a referendum, "Golden Hurricane'' was selected as the official name.
On January 14, 2011, Bill Blankenship, a former quarterback for the Golden Hurricane, was promoted from special teams coordinator, wide receivers, and running backs coach to head coach at Tulsa. Success defined Blankenship's first two years as head coach, including a conference title and Liberty Bowl triumph in 2012.
The Golden Hurricane went to the Independence Bowl and lost to finish the year with a 6-7 record in Montgomery's first season as head coach. Tulsa was 10-3 in Montgomery's second season there, but they went 2-10 last year. After the 2022 campaign, Montgomery was let go.
