The Tour Championship Information
The TOUR Championship is the official name of the PGA Tour golf competition. Traditionally held around the end of the PGA Tour season, it used to include only the top 30 finishers in terms of money earned from the previous year's tournament until 2007.
With eligibility decided by FedEx Cup points acquired throughout the season, it served as the last event of the four-tournament FedEx Cup Playoffs beginning in 2007. The number of FedEx Cup tournaments was cut in half starting in 2019, while the Tour Championship moved from mid-September to late August.
The PGA Tour Fall Series used to follow the Tour Championship (for players vying for exemptions the following season). Still, due to a 2013 schedule realignment, the Tour Championship is now the season's last event.
Various courses served as venues for the tournament between 1987 and 1996. The tournament has moved from Houston's Champions Golf Club to Atlanta's East Lake Golf Club every year since 1997. Since 2004, the tournament has been held annually at East Lake.
A new structure was used for the event in 2019 to guarantee that the victor would also be the FedEx Cup champion. The player with the highest FedEx Cup points entering the tournament begins with a score of 10 under par, following a system comparable to the Gundersen method in Nordic combined.
