Texas State San Marcos Bobcats Football Information
The Texas State Bobcats represent Texas State University in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of NCAA college football. The Sun Belt Conference is where they compete. The series premiered in 1904 and has gone on to be highly successful. There have been 14 conference championships won by the program, with nine of those being outright championships. Bobcat Stadium in San Marcos, Texas, is the site of home games.
The school's growth to the point where it is now the sixth largest university in Texas (2021) and one of the 75 largest universities in the United States has allowed the football team to move up to the highest level of NCAA football, the Football Bowl Subdivision.
In 2012, the program joined the FBS Western Athletic Conference. Texas State played in the WAC for just one season before switching to the Sun Belt Conference. In July 2013, Texas State officially joined the league and began conference play for the 2013-14 school year.
Former Texas State Athletics Director Dr. Larry Teis resigned on August 31, 2021, and the position was temporarily filled by Mr. Don Coryell, Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director of External Operations, effective September 1, 2021.
