Texas Longhorns Womens Volleyball Information
The University of Texas in Austin is represented by the Texas Longhorns women's volleyball team in the NCAA Division I intercollegiate women's volleyball competition. The Big 12 is the current conference of competition for the Longhorns.
The volleyball team's history dates back to 1974. The first four head coaches lasted only one to two seasons apiece. From 1980 to 1996, Mick Haley was the coach before leaving to take over as head coach at USC and then the Olympic squad. Texas was coached by Jim Moore from 1997 to 2000 and has been led by Jerritt Elliott since 2001.
For a long time, Texas was unbeatable in Big XII competition. Texas has won 94% of its Big XII games over the past 14 seasons (2007–2020), placing first 12 times and second twice. Texas has won the Big XII volleyball title a total of fourteen times.
In 30 of the 41 seasons (1982–2022) covered by the AVCA Coaches Poll, the Longhorns finished in the top 10, with the last 17 coming in at or above #8. Texas has only made it to the finals more often than Nebraska and Stanford.
Texas has dominated the volleyball court, resulting in four national titles. The Longhorns have triumphed at the AIAW and NCAA levels, winning in 1981 and 1988 and again in 2012 and 2022. They have made the AIAW/NCAA tournament every year but two since 1981 (40 of 42 seasons), including the last 19 (2004–2022).
