Texas Bowl Information

The Texas Bowl is a yearly Division I FBS college football game held in Houston, Texas. The NCAA sanctions it and takes place after the regular season. Formerly known as Reliant Stadium, NRG Stadium has hosted every Super Bowl.

The Bluebonnet Bowl, played in Houston from 1959 to 1987, was the inaugural bowl game in the city. This bowl occurred after the Houston Bowl played yearly from 2000 to 2005, and then went out of business.

Sponsored by TaxAct, a tax preparation software provider, the game has been formally called the TaxAct Texas game since the 2021 edition.

The future of the previous Houston Bowl was cast into doubt, according to rumors. The event was without a headline sponsor after EV1.net's three-year deal with the bowl game ended on December 31, 2005. According to a college football administrator who spoke with the Houston Chronicle, the bowl may be shut down.

After the 2005 game, the Houston Bowl owed the Big 12 and Mountain West conferences over $600,000 and had lost its title sponsor.
