Lone Star, LLC runs the Rio Grande Valley FC professional soccer club in Edinburg, Texas. They also go by the names RGVFC and Rio Grande Valley FC Toros. They started playing in the USL Championship in 2016. The Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer used the team as a hybrid affiliate. President Chris Canetti of the Houston Dynamo called the partnership "a big and necessary step."
The hybrid affiliation is a first for the USL, implying that the Dynamo will run the soccer side of the team and hire the coaches and players. Lone Star, the club's proprietors, will run and administer the club daily. It was revealed in September 2014 that the Dynamo would be forming a USL team in time for the 2016 season after club representatives met with USL representatives to discuss the possibility.
Bert Garcia confirmed a report on MLSSoccer.com that the Houston Dynamo would likely be the MLS affiliate for the USL team in the Rio Grande Valley in March 2015, announcing that the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA D-league had been awarded a franchise pending concrete plans for a stadium and a name. Charly Flores, a product of the Houston Dynamo's Dynamo Academy, was the first player from the Toros to be signed by the Houston club in December 2015.
