Wrestling is popular on college campuses, and many major leagues offer scholarships to athletes who compete. Only schools in the Big Ten league have wrestling teams, making it the only league in the country. Six institutions in the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Pacific-12 offer wrestling.
Oklahoma State has more victories than any other Division I institution. The Oklahoma State Cowboys wrestling program has won more than 30 national championships. From 2007 to 2019, the Big Ten Conference boasted a perfect run of national champions. Two Big Ten institutions that are perennial powers are Penn State and Iowa.
The NCAA Tournament used to be hosted by various universities. Since 2000, "March Matness" has taken place in massive arenas in big cities like Cleveland, Ohio's Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. Championships for Divisions II and III take place on campus.
