Summit League Basketball Tournament Information

The Summit League men's basketball tournament, sometimes called The Summit League at the Falls, is the postseason event for the Summit League conference in NCAA Division I. The Summit League will send its top team to the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament without having to do anything else. In its original 1984 iteration, the event was hosted by the Association of Mid-Continent Universities (AMCU), the league's official name. 

Before becoming known as The Summit League in 2007, the league went by the name Mid-Continent Conference from 1989 to 2007. As things stand (barring any fines from the NCAA), each of the nine men's basketball teams in the Summit League is guaranteed a spot in the league tournament. Before the 2022–23 season, the tournament was reserved for the top eight teams in each conference based on conference records.

Presently, the Summit League is home to the bolded teams. 2011–12, Oral Roberts competed in the Southland Conference before leaving for 2014–15. Current Summit League teams: South Dakota, Denver, North Dakota, Omaha, and North Dakota have all made it to the tournament final but didn't come out on top. Kansas City and St. Thomas, on the other hand, haven't made it that far yet. When Kansas City was a member of the Summit from 1994–1995 to 2012–2013, it competed under the academic name UMKC. In 2020–21, it returned to that name.
