Sugar Land Space Cowboys Information
The Sugar Land Space Cowboys are a Triple-A baseball club in the Pacific Coast League (PCL). They are a Major League Baseball club affiliated with the Houston Astros. They play their home games at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas, part of the Greater Houston metropolitan region. The Sugar Land Skeeters were an expansion franchise that debuted in 2012 in the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB).
As part of MLB's minor league reorganization following the 2020 season, the Houston Astros bought a piece of the franchise. It became their Triple-A affiliate in the Triple-A West, which was rechristened the PCL in 2022. The Space Cowboys were the new name of the squad in 2022.
Sugar Land's closeness to NASA's Johnson Space Center, cowboy iconography, and the team's association with the Astros are all part of the new identity. After a name change in 2021, the Triple-A West resumed its identity as the Pacific Coast League in 2022. After a dominant first half of the 2024 season, the Cowboys secured a place in the Pacific Coast League championship playoffs.
