Sugar Bowl Information
The Sugar Bowl is a yearly college football game in New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S. After the Rose Bowl Game, played every year since January 1, 1935, it is the second-oldest bowl game in the nation, along with the Orange Bowl and the Sun Bowl.
Before its 1975 relocation to the Superdome, the Sugar Bowl was held at Tulane Stadium. In 2006, the Sugar Bowl was temporarily relocated to Atlanta's Georgia Dome after Hurricane Katrina caused damage to the Superdome and the city as a whole from the winds and water that followed the 2005 storm.
The Allstate Sugar Bowl has been the event's official name since 2007 when Allstate began sponsoring it. Prior sponsors include USF&G Financial Services (1988–1995) and Nokia (1996–2006).
In 2000 and 2004, the Sugar Bowl served as the BCS National Championship Game site twice. Until 2006, when it became an independent event, the national championship game cycled among the bowls members of the Bowl Championship Series.
One of the "New Year's Six" bowls rotated by the College Football Playoff since 2015 is the Sugar Bowl; the others are the Rose, Orange, Cotton, Peach, and Fiesta Bowls. It hosted a playoff semifinal after the 2014, 2017, and 2020 seasons. After the 2023 season, it will host one again.
