State Wrestling Tournament Information
The finest high school wrestlers in Iowa are determined at an annual tournament hosted by the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA). The National Federation of State High School Associations fully accredits the Indiana High School Athletic Association.
Wrestlers in the high school compete in one of three divisions based on the average enrollment of their respective schools. Sixty-four of the largest schools are ranked as 3A, with the next 96 institutions falling into the 2A category. All other 129 schools are ranked as 1A. The data is further segmented by weight category. IHSAA competition begins in the 106-pound weight class. Once the 152-pound threshold is passed, the weight classes begin to expand, with a 60-pound gap between 220 and 285, the biggest weight in the IHSAA.
The wrestling state championships were previously televised on a statewide network of local stations. This year's tournament will be broadcast on television, online, and via the NBC SportsNet App, thanks to an exclusive agreement between the IHSAA and Comcast SportsNet Chicago, a division of NBCUniversal.
