Southwest Classic Information
The Arkansas Razorbacks and the Texas A&M Aggies compete in American college football, and their rivalry dates back to 1903. After Arkansas departed the Southwest Conference to join the Southeastern Conference in 1992, the two institutions did not play each other again until 2008. The rivalry was revived in 2009 as a Southwest Classic at a neutral location, and it returned to its conference rivalry status in 2012 when Texas A&M also joined the Southeastern Conference. Arkansas has a commanding 42-34-3 series advantage.
The first meeting between the two squads since 1991 occurred on October 3, 2009. The Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, was supposed to be the annual site of the rivalry. Arkansas overcame a 10-0 first-quarter hole to win 47-19. For the first time since 1991, conference rivals Texas A&M and Arkansas squared off on the football field on September 29, 2012, after both teams had joined the Southeastern Conference.
It wasn't until the Aggies joined the SEC in 2012 that they finally won more than two consecutive games in the rivalry, and their nine-game winning streak was the longest in the series since 1938–1943. In 2021, Arkansas ended its losing run versus A&M in Arlington and improved to 4-6 against the Aggies.
