The South Dakota State Jackrabbits football team competes in college football on behalf of South Dakota State University. The team is an affiliate of the Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) in the NCAA's Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Jackrabbits' home field is Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium on the campus of South Dakota State University in Brookings.
South Dakota State is one of the few perennial powers regarding the FCS. As one of just 13 FCS schools, South Dakota State also plays home to ESPN's College GameDay. The third-ranked Jackrabbits hosted the first-ranked North Dakota State Bison on 2019 GameDay, a game North Dakota State ultimately won by a score of 23-16 despite losing their starting quarterback to a season-ending knee injury.
The Jackrabbits' 12-year postseason appearance streak is the second longest in the FCS (only North Dakota State's 13-year stretch is longer). After winning the FCS National Championship for the first time on January 8, 2023, the school is now considered one of the elite in the sport.
