Shriners Childrens 500 Information
Since 2005, the Ruoff Mortgage 500 has been a yearly NASCAR Cup Series stock car race at Phoenix Raceway in Avondale, Arizona. The Season Finale 500 is the other Cup Series race at the track. The current race winner is Chase Briscoe. Phoenix, with Subway sponsorship, received a second date as part of the 2005 NASCAR Realignment. Due to the three-race west coast swing, this event's dates were switched with those of the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. This race was the second before Daytona and Las Vegas, the third before Atlanta replaced Phoenix, and the fourth before the Food City 500 at Bristol was moved up four weeks due to inclement weather.
Track officials were worried that the revised start time would shift most of the event out of the intended night and into the day. Phoenix's sunset at that time of year happens at about 7:00 p.m. MST. In 2011, the race was moved one week after the February Daytona 500. The race was run on Sunday during the day for the first time and was reduced to 312 laps, 318.864 miles. Phoenix switched places with the season's second race in 2015, moving to the fourth in mid-March.
