San Jose State Spartans Football Information
San Jose State's football team competes in NCAA Division I FBS collegiate football as a member of the Mountain West Conference. Over 90 players have been named to the All-America team since the club's inaugural season in 1898. The squad has also won 18 conference titles and sent 139 players to the National Football League, including Bill Walsh and Dick Vermeil.
San Jose State hosts its home games at CEFCU Stadium. Fresno State, Stanford, Hawai'i, and San Diego State are all regional rivals. With their 34-20 victory over Boise State, the Spartans made history by qualifying for the Mountain West Conference championship game. The Spartans won their first conference title since 1991 and were the first San Jose State team to beat Boise State.
The Spartans were one of three teams who tied for top place in the league in 2023. The other two were Boise State and UNLV. Although all three teams had 6-2 conference records, the Spartans did not advance to the Mountain West Conference title game due to a computer tiebreaker that gave Boise State and UNLV the upper hand. Brennan accepted a head coaching position with the Arizona Wildcats in January 2024, leaving San Jose State.
