The Aztecs football team plays American football for San Diego State University. The Aztecs play in the West Division of the Mountain West Conference (MW) and the FBS of the NCAA. Brady Hoke leads the team, which began playing at Snapdragon Stadium in 2022.
They are three-time national champions in the small college division and have won 21 conference titles. The new stadium is called Bashor Field at Aztec Stadium, and on December 5, 2019, the university announced that it had received a $15 million grant toward its construction. The university indicated that work on Aztec Stadium would begin in April 2020 and be finished in time for the 2022 season for the Aztecs' game versus Arizona on September 3, 2022.
While the stadium was being built, Qualcomm, which had previously sponsored San Diego Stadium, signed a naming rights agreement with the school. Thus, Qualcomm's system-on-chip inspired the naming of the new stadium as Snapdragon Stadium.
