Fox Corporation and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Alpha Acquico own and run the squad. The Alamodome serves as the home field for the Brahmas. In the 2024 season, the Brahmas had the best win percentage among UFL clubs, with a regular season record of 6-8 (0.428).
The XFL debuted with eight clubs in 2020 as a revival of the same-name league that existed from 2001 until 2020. Even before its April insolvency, the XFL started talking with San Antonio about moving one of its eight clubs there. Axios stated in September 2023 that merger discussions between the XFL and the USFL were well underway to merge the two leagues before the 2024 seasons began.
The XFL and USFL declared their intention to unite on September 28, 2023, with specifics of the merger to be revealed later. Regulatory clearance is also necessary for the merger to go through. Regulatory clearance for the merger had been granted, and preparations were being made for a "combined season" to start on March 30, 2024, according to an Instagram post by Garcia on November 30, 2023. December 31, 2023, was the formal date of the merger.
