Rose Bowl Information
Typically held on January 1 (New Year's Day), the Rose Bowl Game is a yearly college football game in the United States. The game takes place in Pasadena, California. The game is played on Monday, January 2, if New Year's Day is on a Sunday. This inaugural postseason football game was dubbed "The Granddaddy of Them All" by legendary broadcaster Keith Jackson. The Rose Bowl Game has been held every year since 1916. It was originally played in 1902 as the Tournament East-West football game.
The first one to air on high-definition television was in 2005. The other Bowl Championship Series games were televised by Fox beginning in 2007. Still, the Rose Bowl insisted on keeping the event on ABC after negotiating its television deal outside the BCS. All BCS/CFP games, including the Rose Bowl game, are now broadcasted by ESPN, which is majority-owned by ABC's parent corporation, The Walt Disney Corporation, starting with the 2010 season.
The Rose Bowl Game presented by Capital One was the official name of the 2021 edition, which Capital One sponsored. Being the first corporation to sponsor two New Year's Six bowls, Capital One made history in 2021 by sponsoring the Orange Bowl. The Rose Bowl Game presented by Capital One Venture X, after the company's travel rewards credit card, was formally called for the 2022 edition, continuing Capital One's game sponsorship.
