Lone Star, LLC runs the Rio Grande Valley FC (also known as RGVFC or Rio Grande Valley FC Toros) of Edinburg, Texas, USA. In 2016, they began competing in the USL Championship. The squad was a Major League Soccer's Houston Dynamo hybrid affiliate. Houston Dynamo president Chris Canetti referred to the partnership as "a crucial and necessary step."
The Dynamo will run the soccer side of the club, including player and coach selection, in a first for the USL hybrid affiliation. Lone Star, the club's proprietors, will be in charge of running things day-to-day. Meeting with USL representatives in September 2014, Dynamo management declared their plan to launch a USL franchise in time for the 2016 season.
In March 2015, Bert Garcia confirmed a report on MLSSoccer.com that the Houston Dynamo would likely be the MLS affiliate for the USL team in the Rio Grande Valley and announced that the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA D-league had been awarded a franchise pending concrete plans for a stadium and a name. Charly Flores, a Houston Dynamo's Academy graduate, became the club's inaugural Toros player in December 2015.
