ReliaQuest Bowl Information
The ReliaQuest Bowl is a college football game played yearly in Tampa, Florida. In its first eight years, 1986–1995, it was called the Hall of Fame Bowl. From 1996–2022, it was called the Outback Bowl. From 1986 until the event's 1999 relocation to the brand-new Raymond James Stadium, it was hosted in Tampa Stadium.
Historically, New Year's Day has been jam-packed with college football postseason games, but the bowl game has long been the first to begin that day.
After signing a six-year extension in 2019, Outback Steakhouse's parent company ended its title sponsorship in March 2022 to cut costs, renaming the game the Tampa Bay Bowl. In June 2022, ReliaQuest, a cybersecurity business in Tampa, was revealed as the new title sponsor.
The bowl was granted the 3rd choice of teams from each conference following the placement of Bowl Championship Series (BCS) participants in 1995 when agreements were signed with the SEC and Big Ten.
The SEC and Big Ten have collaborated with several bowl games, including this one, since 2014 to determine which teams are eligible to play in bowl games following the decisions made by the College Football Playoff (CFP) and related bowls.
