The Penn State Nittany Lions women's volleyball program has a lengthy history. It was formed in 1976 by Tom Tait, who also managed the women's team from 1976 to 1979 and was awarded a U.S. Volleyball All-Time Great Coach in 2007. Sporting their iconic blue and white uniforms, the Nittany Lions play their home games at Rec Hall on the university campus in University Park, Penn.
Volleyball enthusiasts of NCAA Division I and the prestigious Big Ten Conference can always rely on Penn State's calendar to burst with games against other great opponents, such as the Wisconsin Badgers or the Nebraska Cornhuskers. From 1979 until 2021, Russ Rose served as head coach. First, in 1999, then every year from 2007 through 2010, and in 2013 and 2014, he oversaw the effort toward seven NCAA national titles.
Certainly not the last, the Nittany Lions would later progress to the NCAA Regional Final, a first in school history. When the Nittany Lions overcame Stanford in a dominating manner, marking their first of many national titles, everything finally came together in 1999. The club boasts seven national victories from 1999 to 2014.
