Penn Quakers Mens Basketball Information
The Penn Quakers men's basketball team is the University of Pennsylvania's college basketball team. Over four decades, from 1966 to 2007, the Penn men's basketball program peaked, cementing its position as the twentieth-winningest program in program history. Penn competes at the Division I level in the Ivy League.
In 1979, Penn had an appearance in one Final Four. Penn and Princeton have won 26 regular season Ivy League championships, tying them for the most. The third Princeton, with whom they used to play annually in the final game of the regular season, is their primary Ivy League foe.
For the 1919–20 and 1920–21 seasons, Penn was historically named the national champion before the NCAA tournament by the Helms Athletic Foundation and by the Premo-Porretta Power Poll for the 1919–20 season.
On March 17, 1994, the Quakers won their final NCAA tournament game at Uniondale, New York's Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The first round of play ended with the No. 11 Quakers defeating the No. 6 Cornhuskers, 90-80. The second round of play took place on March 19, with the Quakers losing to No. 3 Florida, 70-58.
Among the many schools with whom the Quakers have long-lived rivalries are Temple, La Salle, Saint Joseph's, and Villanova, all of which are part of the Philadelphia Big 5: Drexel University, another opponent and member of the City.
