Oshawa Generals Information
An Ontario Hockey League junior ice hockey club, the Oshawa Generals, plays in the league. Ontario, Canada, is where their headquarters are located. General Motors, whose Canadian headquarters are in Oshawa, is an early sponsor and the inspiration for the team's name. The Tribute Communities Centre took the name General Motors Centre in November 2016. It ranks second in the Ontario Hockey League with 184 alumni who have made it to the NHL. Five times—in1939,1940,1944, 1990, and 2015—have the Generals been named Memorial Cup winners.
Rocco Tullio of Windsor, Ontario, agreed to terms and circumstances with John Davies to acquire his remaining shares of the Generals, as disclosed by the Generals' executive team in July 2008, in a change of ownership structure. Peter DeBoer, a former championship-level OHL coach and manager, and Adam Graves, a former NHL player and Stanley Cup winner, became partners with Tullio in January 2010.
Since the 1989–90 season, the Oshawa Generals have worn their current uniforms. The announcement of their move to a new venue brought a refreshed logo. The new logo's cresting will have three layers in contrast to the old one. With double cresting, the names and numbers of the players will appear. There had been much anticipation for a new arena in Oshawa, and finally, on March 10, 2005, the city council approved the "Downtown Sports & Entertainment Facility Project."
