Orange Bowl Information
The Orange Bowl has been held in the Miami metropolitan region every year since January 1, 1935, and it is a college football bowl game in the United States. It is one of the nation's oldest bowl games, alongside the Sun Bowl and the Sugar Bowl, and second-oldest after the Rose Bowl, which began in 1902 and has been held every year since 1916 before its 1938 relocation to its current site, Miami Field, the Orange Bowl was played in Miami, Florida.
Since August 26, 2010, when Discover Financial was named as the game's title sponsor as part of a new four-year arrangement, the game has formally been known as the Discover Orange Bowl. The Orange Bowl maintained its tie-in with the Big Eight while participating in the Bowl Coalition in the 1990s. In subsequent years, it joined the Bowl Alliance. The Bowl Championship Series (BCS) was an organization that included the Orange Bowl from 1998 to 2013. The BCS is no more. The 2001 and 2005 BCS National Championship Games were held in the Orange Bowl.
The current College Football Playoff (CFP) took over from the BCS following the 2013 season. Since the 2014 season, the Orange Bowl has been one of the six bowl games that make up the College Football Playoffs in the New Year. Every year from 2015 through 2021, and again in 2024, the Orange Bowl hosted a national semifinal.
