Orange Blossom Classic Information
The Orange Blossom Classic is an annual football game that pits Florida A&M against other Historically Black Colleges and Universities in an unofficial championship game for HBCUs with football teams. During 1933 - 1978, the Orange Blossom Classic was a yearly event. The year 2021 saw the return of the custom.
In the first Orange Blossom Classic in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1933, Florida A&M defeated the Howard University Bisons 9-0. With a score of 13-12 in Miami, Florida, Florida A&M defeated the Virginia State Trojans again in 1934. After defeating the Rattlers 19-10 in the 1935 Classic, the Thorobreds of Kentucky State became the first team other than Florida A&M to claim the title.
Following a 1935 loss, Florida A&M went on a three-game winning streak in the Classics, resulting in a 9-7 score against Kentucky State in 1938, in which the Seminoles exacted revenge. The match versus the Wilberforce Bulldogs was also noteworthy; the score was 0-0. In the inaugural year of the Orange Blossom Classic's revival, which took place in 2021 in Florida, the Bulldogs of Jackson State defeated the host Gators 7-6.
