The men's basketball team from Stillwater, Oklahoma, USA, known as the Oklahoma State Cowboys, competes in NCAA Division I games. Cowgirls is the name given to the school's women's athletic teams. Currently, the Cowboys play their home games in the Big 12 Conference. While other institutions like Oklahoma and Texas were ranked higher, CBS Sports placed Oklahoma State at number 25 all-time for college basketball. 

Among Big 12 programs, only Kansas can match Oklahoma State's record of men's basketball success, which includes more national titles and more trips to the NCAA Championship, Final Four, Elite Eight, and Sweet Sixteen. With 23 conference championships (including regular season and tournament play), Oklahoma State has more than any other Oklahoma program.

The team's home field has been Gallagher-Iba Arena since 1938. Teams used to be called the Aggies while the school was still known as Oklahoma A&M College, which was in use until 1957. After Travis Ford was fired as head coach at Oklahoma State, Brad Underwood was hired to replace him on March 21, 2016. Underwood departed the program for Illinois on March 18, 2017, just over a year after it began. March 24 saw the promotion of assistant coach Mike Boynton to head coach.
