Oklahoma Sooners Mens Basketball Information
The Oklahoma Sooners men's basketball team plays NCAA Division I basketball for the University of Oklahoma. Oklahoma State is a member of the Big 12 Conference. The men's basketball team of the Oklahoma Sooners has enjoyed some success over the past few decades despite spending most of its existence in the shadow of the football team.
The squad has more NCAA tournament victories than any other sans a title, and they have been to five Final Fours. Along with Wayman Tisdale, Stacey King, Harvey Grant, Mookie Blaylock, Ryan Minor, Hollis Price, and Blake Griffin, the program has produced several All-Americans.
Before the 2011–12 season, Oklahoma University recruited Lon Kruger to succeed Jeff Capel as head coach. Kansas State, Florida, Illinois, and UNLV were all stops in Kruger's coaching resume. The Sooners improved upon their 2010–11 season under his leadership, finishing 15–16.
With an unexpected 20-12 record (11-7 Big 12) and a fourth-place finish in 2012–13, the program received its first invitation to the NCAA tournament since 2009, when Blake Griffin guided the school to the Elite 8. The Sooners, nevertheless, lost to San Diego State in the NCAA tournament's second round.
On March 25, 2021, Kruger announced his retirement from coaching. Porter Moser, who had previously guided the Ramblers to the Sweet 16 and led Loyola Chicago to the Final Four in 2018, was hired by the Sooners on April 3, 2021.
