NJSIAA Individual State Wrestling Championships Information
The NJSIAA was founded in 1918 as a volunteer non-profit organization, with approximately 430 schools participating. Within most institutions, five subregions comprise the member schools: North I, North II, Central, and South.
The number of students enrolled at each school determines their grouping; the largest schools are in Group V, while the smallest are in Group I. There are four zones for private schools: North A, North B, South A, and South B. Groups do not exist for private schools.
The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association is in charge of and regulates the state wrestling championships for high school athletes in New Jersey. High schools in New Jersey are members of the NJSIAA. Athletes must finish in the top three in their school's group at the regional competition to earn a spot in the state event. Athletes must achieve a district tournament placing to advance to the regional competition.
Four or six rounds are played over three days at the state championship. The tournament's bracket size is 32. Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City is the site of the competition every year. Wrestle-backs decide third place. The seeding committee decides how seeds are distributed.
