New Mexico State Aggies Football Information
The New Mexico State Aggies football team competes in the NCAA Division I FBS as a member of Conference U.S. NMSU's inaugural football season, which began in 1893, has a long sports legacy. During that season, the squad played the New Mexico Lobos of UNM.
With an annual matchup between the two institutions known as the Rio Grande Rivalry, the Lobos became the Aggies' toughest opponents. The Aggies also compete fiercely with the UTEP Miners from the University of Texas in El Paso. The Aggies have won numerous conference titles and had several great seasons during their history.
From 2014 to 2017, New Mexico State was a football-only Sun Belt Conference member; from 2013, it was an independent. New Mexico State started playing independently once more with the 2018 football season. New Mexico State stated on November 5, 2021, that it is attending the Conference in the U.S. in all sports, including football, beginning in 2023.
