The New Mexico Lobos represent the university in intercollegiate football. The Lobos are an active participant in the Mountain West Conference. Cherry, red, and silver are their official colors. University Stadium is the site of all Lobos home games. Long resigned on November 17, 2008, two days after the regular season concluded for the Lobos, after coaching there for 11 seasons and compiling an overall losing record.
