New Hampshire Wildcats Football Information
The New Hampshire Wildcats are the University of New Hampshire's intercollegiate American football team. The Wildcats are members of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) and the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and participate in the NCAA Division I Football Championship. Ricky Santos is the head coach of the club, and the team's home games are played at Wildcat Stadium.
The only times the school did not field a varsity football team were one year during World War I and two years during World War II. Since 1893, the school has had a football team every year. Bill Bowes, who coached the team from 1972 to 1998, is one of the people on whom the College Football Hall of Fame has bestowed its honor.
The Wildcats have played their home football games in Durham on several grounds. Before the present stadium, which has been in use since 1936, the team played their home games on Memorial Field from 1921 to 1935. The new stadium has been in use since 1936. Memorial Field is still the site of the women's field hockey team's league games.
