New Balance Indoor Grand Prix Information
The New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, previously referred to as the Boston Indoor Games, is a yearly indoor track and field competition conducted at the Track at New Balance in late January or early February. Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center was the site before 2023.
It has grown into one of the most prominent events in the U.S., alongside the Millrose Games, since its 1996 debut in the Roxbury area of Boston. Olympic and world medalists are among the elite athletes that compete in this event, part of the Visa Championship Series put on by the U.S. Track and Field. The 2016 race took place during the first year of the IAAF World Indoor Tour.
Six new world records were set during the event's history. Some of these feats include those of Ethiopian runner Tirunesh Dibaba, who, in 2005 and 2007, established and improved upon the global indoor record for the 5000-meter run. Many national and U.S. all-comers records—the finest performances ever recorded in the U.S.—have also been set at the Boston Indoor Games.
By leaping 4.88 meters during the 2012 meeting, Jenn Suhr became the second-highest vaulter in history, surpassing her American record. In 2021, the event had to be moved to Staten Island, New York's Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. The new indoor track and field facility in Brighton, Boston, known as the TRACK at New Balance, hosted the 2023 edition.
