NCAA Womens Volleyball Championship Information
The NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship was founded in 1981. Since 1981, teams from Division I have competed for the women's volleyball championship at the end of the NCAA Division I women's volleyball tournament. The Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women hosted the women's collegiate volleyball championships from 1970 to 1980. It was before the NCAA took control of women's collegiate athletics.
Texas triumphed in the most recent competition, defeating Louisville 3-0 in Omaha, Nebraska's CHI Health Center.
Twenty colleges competed for the title in the 1981 NCAA championship tournament. The tournament gradually increased, going from 28 teams in 1982 to 32 in 1986, 48 in 1993, 56 in 1997, and 64 in 1998.
The NCAA has recognized the most outstanding player(s) of the NCAA championship every year since 1996, starting in 1991. Some of the notable names are 2004 Ogonna Nnamani, 2009; Destinee Hooker, 2015; Mikaela Foecke, 2020; Madison Lilley, 2021; Anna Smrek, and 2022; Logan Eggleston.
