NCAA Gymnastics Championship Information
Every year, the top college gymnastics teams in the nation compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Women's Gymnastics Tournament. Unlike most NCAA sports, the women's gymnastics championship employs a single National Collegiate tournament rather than divisions. In 1982, women's gymnastics was added to the list of NCAA championship sports.
Suzanne Yoculan's UGA and Sarah Patterson's Alabama enjoyed prosperous eras in the late 1980s and 1990s when they won multiple championships. From 1996 to 2012, under Valorie Kondos Field's coaching, the University of Alabama won four NCAA championships, UCLA six, and Georgia seven. The University of Georgia also won four titles.
Rhonda Faehn's University of Florida upset the odds and won the 2013 NCAA tournament at UCLA's recently renovated Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, California. From 1990 to 1992, Faehn competed for the Bruins. Following their 2014 NCAA title tie with Florida, K. J. Kindler's University of Oklahoma became just the sixth school to achieve this feat. The seventh team to ever win the NCAA title was the University of Michigan in 2021, coached by Bev Plocki.
