NASCAR Xfinity Series Information
NASCAR has the Xfinity Series (NXS) under its belt. It receives much marketing support as a feeder series to NASCAR's premier Cup Series. It's not uncommon for NXS races to serve as a warmup for the Cup Series races that are set to take place that weekend. Originally established in 1950 as NASCAR's short-track race division, the series grew out of NASCAR's Sportsman division.
The series was renamed the Xfinity Series when Comcast's cable television and internet brand Xfinity was revealed as the new title sponsor on September 3, 2014. A seven-race Chase, modeled after the NASCAR Cup Series' format, was introduced by NASCAR in 2016.
The number of drivers in an Xfinity racing field has fluctuated. The grid size was 43 vehicles every race before 2013 when it was reduced to 40 cars at most. In 2019, the field was further trimmed to 40 spots; in 2020, it was cut to 36 spots. Due to canceling qualifying sessions after the pandemic, part-time teams were temporarily allowed to compete in the 2020 season with fields extended to 40 cars.
