The Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race is a popular NASCAR Cup Series stock car race inaugurated in 1961. The race is one of the two NASCAR Cup Series that takes place at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee. The second one is the Food City 500. Some of the former names of the series are Volunteer 500 (1961–1979), Busch Volunteer 500 (1980), Busch 500 (1981–1990), Bud 500 (1991–1993), Goody's 500 (1994–1995), Goody's Headache Powder 500 (1996–1999), and Irwin Tools Night Race (2010–2015). The corporate sponsor of the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race is Bass Pro Shops National Rifle Association.
The Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race was held in late-August from 1978 to 2019. Typically, it takes place on the last Saturday of August. It is currently the final race in the NASCAR playoffs' Round of 16. Some of the notable races included in this series are; 1964 race in which Richard Petty led 442 laps but unfortunately broke the rear end coming to the white flag, 1969 in which David Pearson survived multiple wrecks to win the 1st race, 1974 in which Neil Bonnett tore open forty feet of inside guardrail but luckily he was not at all injured, and many more.
So far, most wins as a driver are scored by Darrell Waltrip (7), and most wins as a team are scored by Junior Johnson & Associates (9).
