Myrtle Beach Bowl Information
The Myrtle Beach Bowl is an American NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) college football bowl game. It was first played in December 2020 in Conway, South Carolina, and is owned by ESPN Events. Coastal Carolina University hosts the bowl game at its Brooks Stadium with a seating capacity of 20,000, following an expansion project before the 2019 season.
“Group of Five” conferences were looking forward to starting bowl games for their leagues in 2013. The NCAA restricted championship games held in South Carolina due to the Confederate flag’s display on StateHouse grounds, later lifted in July 2015. The NCAA also announced a three-year moratorium on new bowl games in April 2016.
The Grand Strand area was indicated to be approved for a bowl game in June 2018. The Beach Bowl was subsequently announced on November 13, 2018, by ESPN Events. The bowl made its debut during the 2020-21 bowl seasons that matched North Texas of C-USA and Appalachian State of the Sun Belt. On December 21, 2020, Appalachian State won the season.
